Change your tiny decisions to change your life

What is a decision first? A decision is a choice that you make about something after thinking about several possibilities or not thinking at all…

How many times do we say, “that’s a simple thing, let’s just do it,” only to realize that there were many other things that came up? We believed we could complete the task quickly, but it ended up taking too long and we realized how we wasted too much time.

If we had not made that small decision, we most likely would have either saved that time or been working on more worthwhile or productive tasks.

When we try to pitch out anything by it self, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe. — John Mair

However, when we look at the larger picture, our life is really just a series of tiny decisions that we make every second. Our lives are driven by these seemingly insignificant choices, such as what to eat, when to get out of bed, whether to read or not, and whether to tell someone we love them or apologize. Let’s see one simple example how a insignificant decision can make your next day worse.

Isn’t having a cup of coffee a somewhat insignificant decision? I’m sure you agree with me, but can we sleep if we drink that coffee late at night? Almost certainly not! If we have difficulty falling asleep, our day tomorrow will almost certainly be a nightmare. We won’t be able to focus at work, read, or listen to people talk because we’re too weary, and all of this just makes us look and feel terrible, but when we go back to see why, we discover that it was a tiny decision — coffee — that took us here. Things would have been much better if we hadn’t taken that one decision.

“We all make choices, but in the end, our choices make us.” — Ken Levine.

But, how to fix my decision making?

Get a journal

Write them down, especially the ones that went wrong. As is said your most competitive person in the world should be yourself; you should be better tomorrow than you were today, but how can you be better if you don’t even know what your mistakes were yesterday?! So document, evaluate, and correct those mistakes so that they are not repeated.

Learn to say NO

Don’t be rude, but say NO, to yourself first then to others. Why is it that we shout NO, DON’T DO THAT, DON’T TOUCH THAT, to our children but never to ourselves? Probably if we had someone saying that words to us like we do to our childrens our life would be a way better than it is. Learning saying no is the most effective tactic you can learn and practice from now on.

Stop

STOP control and correct, because if you just let then go, you will keep repeating them over and over again until they become a habit, and altering that habit is far more difficult than catching and resolving it early.

Reward

As soon as you notice yourself advancing and making better decisions, make a decision to reward yourself. This will be an excellent starting point for you to continue improving yourself and become a better tomorrow than today.

Conclusion

Starting to write this post was a tiny decision, but I’m hoping that it will inspire individuals to be better than they were yesterday. If you found it beneficial, please take the little step of sharing it.
